To make this bold, Gothic piece I filled the back of a reclaimed canvas with plaster for structure. The front was coated in thinned out, black tinted plaster for a textured, rippled effect. The hand was carefully built up with modeling paste. Then the painting was done on the hardened modeling paste, later finished with a matte clear coat.
The resin frame was acquired later β a lucky find, but broken and in bad shape. I used polymer clay to sculpt and repair the broken sections of the frame, and to sculpt the gold colored oval between the painting and the frame. I painted the frame black with a glossy finish. Check out the How Itβs Made section to see how some of my other works were crafted.
