In this print, the tiled effect is from using 12 small squares of linoleum - each a reduction print with several colors - to create the larger image. The reference photo was taken by my Grandfather, then a newlywed, of his first family sedan in Revloc, Pennsylvania, 1954.
A reduction block print is a multi-colored print made by carving and printing the same block of linoleum multiple times - the block is "reduced" after each color is printed.
With reduction printing, one cannot make more prints later as the sole block is all but destroyed by the end of the process.
