Dr. Emanuel Ringelblum, a historian who led the creation of the Oyneg Shabbat archive in the Warsaw Ghetto, is known for the quote, “What we could not shout out to the world, we buried in the ground.” Ringelblum and his associates collected information about daily life in the ghetto, and buried the writings in metal boxes and milk cans, unearthed after the war.
A reduction block print is a multi-colored print made by carving and printing the same block of linoleum multiple times - the block is "reduced" after each color is printed.
With reduction printing, one cannot make more prints later as the sole block is all but destroyed by the end of the process.
Check out some examples of the process in the How It’s Made section.
